Molecular characterization of Rht-1 dwarfing genes in hexaploid wheat.
The introduction of the Reduced height (Rht)-B1b and Rht-D1b semidwarfing genes led to impressive increases in wheat (Triticum aestivum) yields during the Green Revolution. The reduction in stem elongation in varieties containing these alleles is caused by a limited response to the phytohormone gibberellin (GA), resulting in improved resistance to stem lodging and yield benefits through an incr...
متن کاملIncorrectly predicted genes in rice?
Between one third and one half of the proposed rice genes appear to have no homologs in other species, including Arabidopsis. Compositional considerations, and a comparison of curated rice sequences with ex novo predictions, suggest that many or most of the putative genes without homologs may be false positive predictions, i.e., sequences that are never translated into functional proteins in vivo.

متن کاملPhenotype/genotype associations for yield and salt tolerance in a barley mapping population segregating for two dwarfing genes.
Barley traits related to salt tolerance are mapped in a population segregating for a dwarfing gene associated with salt tolerance. Twelve quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were detected for seven seedling traits in doubled haploids from the spring barley cross Derkado x B83-12/21/5 when given saline treatment in hydroponics. The location of QTLs for seedling growth stage (leaf appearance rate), st...
متن کاملHigh-throughput discovery of mutations in tef semi-dwarfing genes by next-generation sequencing analysis.
Tef (Eragrostis tef) is a major cereal crop in Ethiopia. Lodging is the primary constraint to increasing productivity in this allotetraploid species, accounting for losses of ∼15-45% in yield each year. As a first step toward identifying semi-dwarf varieties that might have improved lodging resistance, an ∼6× fosmid library was constructed and used to identify both homeologues of the dw3 semi-d...
